Harvey Potter's Balloon Farm
Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-02-23 Summary: Fantastic read-aloud magic ... I've read this book out loud to pre-schoolers at library storytimes, to kindergarteners and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders in their classrooms, with great success -- without fail, children love this book, as do I. "Harvey Potter's Balloon Farm" is full of a magical wonder, terrific language for reading out loud, a joyful warm humorous spirit, drama, and a lot of love. The illustrations are pretty wonderful, too. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-07-10 Summary: We love this one ... This is a fun story about a girl who befriends a balloon farmer. Eventually, as we find out, she learns how to grow her own balloons, just differently. The narrator does not speak Standard American English, she speaks a different dialect. That is appropriate, given the setting. At any rate, I think it's important for children to learn that not everybody will speak the way they do. Like knowing two or more languages, knowing two or more dialects is a skill that can only enhance communication. This is a wordy book, and ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2006-11-11 Summary: Enchanting Tale ... Harry Potter's Balloon Farm is an enchanting tale with marvelous pictures. A young girl is fascinated about Mr. Potter's balloons. She secretly spies on him one magical night to see how they are created. The drawings are vibrant and visually entertaining. My kids enjoyed finding the cat, cow, rabbit, chicken, T.Rex, and pig hidden on every page. ...more
Editorial Reviews — ... Product Description | Harvey Potter was a very strange fellow indeed. He was a farmer, but he didn't farm like my daddy did. He farmed a genuine, U.S. Government Inspected Balloon Farm. So begins this enchanting original tall tale. Set in the rural south and populated with a truly unforgettable cast of characters--including, if you look very carefully, a rabbit, a Tyrannosaurus rex, a cat, a chicken, a cow, and a pig hidden in each remarkable illustration--this is a book that is filled with wonderful impossibilities...more

Maisy's Farm: A Pop-up and Play Set
Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2006-06-18 Summary: Wonderful!! ... I bought this because my daughter LOVES Maisy. We had previously bought the playhouse, and my 2 year old loved it so much, we bought this one too. My only suggestion is to laminate or tape up (with clear packing tape) the Maisy, Cyril, Tallulah, and Charley since they get worn out very easily. I know Maisy's arms don't move then, but my daughter didn't seem to mind. Otherwise, this will provide hours of fun! ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2004-01-23 Summary: Great fun and keeps them busy for ages ... This book opens out to form a pop up farm scene - complete with vegetable garden, barn, stables etc. All the peices that you use to tell your own story need to pressed out of a thin card before you start, but there are lots of surprised hidden amongst the walls of the pop-up to discover for yourself. A small book is also included. I was really surprised. Although only made of thin card, it is actually proving to be more durable than I thought ... my girls (4 and almost 3) are so careful with it as they make the characters ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2003-02-07 Summary: great (portable) fun for little Maisy and/or farm fans ... We bought this farm pop-up after having purchased and enjoyed the Maisy Pop-Up Playhouse. Both have their charms. The farm has fewer nooks and crannies to hold items but the objects themselves are just as clever, and Maisy's friends Talleulah, Cyril, Charlie and Eddie are here on the farm. This is a terrific value -- a charming fold-out setup, creatively designed and with lots of hidden surprises and fun accessories. Your preschooler boy or girl will have hours of low-tech fun playing with Maisy and her friends as ...more
Editorial Reviews — [1] ... Product Description | Maisy takes preschoolers to her pop-up farm for hours of fun! What’s more fun than a day on the farm? A day on the farm with Maisy! Maisy’s Farm is an amazing three-dimensional pop-up farm full of things to do and animals to love. The sturdy stand-up Maisy figure has arms that move and a tractor to ride in. [2] ... Review | Roll up your sleeves and get ready to help Maisy and her friends run the farm! In this elaborate pop-up and play set, the covers of what looks like a regular hardcover book fold back all the way to reveal four quadrants that make up Maisy the mouse's farm. Children can play with press-out characters, animals, tools, and crops in pop-up cardboard sheds, haylofts, and vegetable patches. Maisy herself has movable arms and can sit in her own tractor as she roams the farm, milking the cow, collecting fruits...more
